Josh <3

He’s such a dick, but sometimes he isn’t, so that’s fun to write.

Plus there's that whole boyish charm thing haha. I like Josh a lot actually, even when he is a dick, but my taste in men has never been exemplary.

When I was first watching the show in my early 20s, I was alllllll about Josh. I liked Sam too, but he seemed too obvious, so I veered towards the dickish charm. 25 years later, I’m like oh no, he is absolutely so toxic and Sam Seaborn is total boyfriend material. A friend of mine was like “Josh is a garbage person.” And I could not disagree. (Though a lot of West Wing is just very “of its time.”)

Garbage person 😭 he had flaws but I still like him idk. His track record with women isn't great though 🙈 I put him on my list of TV characters I would date and how that would go if you want to check it out (spoiler: suboptimal). Sam did feel too obvious, plus he was a little TOO nice.

Make no mistake — I would hang out with Josh. As much as I could. But Sam is a lover, not a fighter. Too persistent in the first season when it came to Laurie, yes. But I always see him and Mallory and him and Ainsley. He had respect for them. I’ve come to appreciate this about him. Toby, on the other hand, comes on too strong. But it’s not like I’ve thought about this at length or anything.

You know who was a good boyfriend? Charlie. Also, yeah, I clearly haven't thought much about all this either.
